A series of monthly Friday night gatherings to view feature films/documentaries/videos of interest to Progressives (at venues "progressing" from ward to ward) which aim to entertain, provoke discussion, inform, and rejuvenate!
This month: As a special Inter-Ward Activities/Progressive Movie Night event, there will be a "field trip" to see the debut of "An Inconvenient Truth", the already critically acclaimed documentary on global warming produced by and featuring former Vice-President (and, alas, suspected winner of the 2000 presidential election) Al Gore.
"An Inconvenient Truth," which debuted on May 26 in New York, Chicago and LA), opens in the Boston area on June 2, which is the opening session of the state convention. Knowing this, the committee decided that it might be a particularly fun thing to plan the movie night excursion for Sunday evening, knowing that most convention attendees would be back home and eager for something other than local politics, and that many would really want to see the film during its opening weekend.
So.... there will be a Progressive Movie Night "field trip" to the Harvard Square Theatre for the 7:45 p.m. show on Sunday, June 4. Those who are interested may also want to gather for dinner at about 6:00, at a location to be announced. If you are interested in the film viewing and/or the dinner (not to mention the inevitable stimulating conversation afterward), please phone either Elaine Giddis at 617-492-5027 or Linda Pinti at 617-547-6465. This should be an exciting event, and for those attending the convention, a great way to cap off the weekend! The film should be a hot topic of discussion in our circles for months to come. (By the way, while we would love for you all to be part of the group on Sunday, "An Inconvenient Truth" is also opening on Friday, June 2 at the Coolidge Corner in Brookline and the Embassy in Waltham,, and presumably at a number of additional theatres in the area by next weekend.)
