We're so delighted and honored that this meeting will feature a conversation with our own Rep. Marjorie Decker, chair of the Joint Committee on Public Health!

Marjorie Decker — One Year Later: How Did We Get Here, What's Next?

Marjorie will discuss the pandemic and more — where are we, how did we get here, what's next??

Marjorie Decker has deep roots in our community. Growing up in public housing in Cambridgeport, she was the first in her family to graduate from high school, Cambridge Rindge and Latin. She then went on to graduate with honors from UMass Amherst, and earned her masters at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Marjorie became the youngest woman ever elected to the Cambridge City Council, and served seven terms before her election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives. We all know how tireless she has been in her advocacy for Cambridge residents as well as individuals across the state, working to ensure that every needy and eligible person has access to affordable housing, quality education and comprehensive health care.

This is our annual elections meeting, so we'll hold officer elections for the positions of Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Affirmative Action & Outreach Advisor. Not only are CDCC members eligible to vote in these elections, but we encourage all interested members to run for an officer position!

We will also be thinking about our bylaws, considering two proposals.

Trump and Beyond:
Party Politics in the 2020s

Cambridge Dems Meeting
Wed. Jan. 13, 2021 at 7:00pm

We have all been shocked this week by the seditious insurrection mounted by Donald Trump in the final days of his presidency. His coup attempts continue to fail, however; Congress did in fact certify the victory of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and we know that Joe and Kamala will take the oaths of office to become President and Vice-President on Wednesday January 20th. The events of last week prompt us only to make one small change to the logo of the presidential transition…

Biden transition logo 46 or 47

What is happening to the Republican Party, now in thrall to this Trumpist movement? And how will our own Democratic Party change, not just in response to the Republicans but more deeply as a result of our own powerful movements for racial and economic justice and to combat climate change?

We are extremely fortunate that our speaker this Wednesday January 13th will be Daniel Schlozman, our friend, former chair, and Associate Professor of Political Science at Johns Hopkins University — because Danny literally wrote the book on the relationship between movements like these and political parties!

It's safe to say that no one is better qualified than Danny to help us understand what on earth is going on and what lies ahead for both parties. If you want to get an idea of what Danny's been thinking about recently, here's an article in the Washington Post, and here's an interview with Perry Bacon of FiveThirtyEight.

In accordance with our new normal, the meeting will be a Zoom videoconference that you can attend with your computer, tablet, smartphone, or even by calling in on your landline telephone if you're feeling old-school. You can find Zoom connection info below ⬇️. The meeting will also be live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook.

What Just Happened?
What Comes Next?

Wed. Nov. 18, 2020 at 7:00pm

We are honored and excited that Roger Lau, Elizabeth Warren's Presidential Campaign Manager, will be our speaker when the Cambridge Dems meet online this Wednesday!

Roger Lau speaks on What Just Happened? What Comes Next?

Roger knows American politics! Here’s a peek at the highlights reel — he was the campaign manager for Niki Tsongas’s first congressional campaign in 2007 and for John Kerry’s re-election run in 2008. After a stint in the Obama administration and more full immersion in congressional and senatorial politics in Massachusetts, Roger was the campaign manager for Elizabeth Warren’s 2018 Senate campaign and most recently served as Campaign Manager, Warren for President.

Currently a senior aide to Senator Warren, Roger knows how to Dream Big and Fight Hard — and the days ahead of us are most certainly times of big dreams and hard fights! Join us to hear Roger’s and Team Warren's thoughts on “What Just Happened? What Comes Next?”

After we hear from Roger, we will hold an election to fill the position of Secretary of the Cambridge Dems, as our beloved secretary David Lakeman has moved to Illinois to take up the good fight there. If the result of this election opens up the position of Affirmative Action & Outreach Advisor, an election for that position will then be held immediately.

All CDCC members (members of a ward committee) are eligible to run for office or to vote for candidates. We encourage all interested members to consider running for one of these officer positions.

In accordance with our new normal, the meeting will be a Zoom videoconference that you can attend with your computer, tablet, smartphone, or even by calling in on your landline telephone if you're feeling old-school. Scroll down ⬇️ for Zoom connection info. The meeting will also be live-streamed on YouTube Live and Facebook Live.
