Democrats in 10 of Cambridge's 11 wards will hold caucuses at 1:00 PM, Sunday March 12 at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, 459 Broadway, Cambridge, to elect delegates and alternates to the 2017 Massachusetts Democratic Convention, where delegates from across Massachusetts will gather to adopt a new Party Platform. Caucuses for Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 as well as Wards 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 will meet in the school's main cafeteria. Cambridge Ward 6 held a separate caucus to elect delegates last week. The convention will be held June 3 at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell.
“Our caucuses are a great opportunity to strengthen our Party’s organization and to welcome new participants who are interested in getting involved in our Party,” commented Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Gus Bickford.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jay Gonzalez will speak at Sunday's caucuses.
Please note that Sunday March 12 marks the return of Daylight Savings Time — be sure to turn your clocks and watches forward one hour to avoid missing the caucuses!
Caucuses are open to all registered and pre-registered Democrats in Cambridge. Any person who is not 18 years of age at the time of the caucus but will be 18 by the 2018 Primary date (Sept. 11, 2018) may pre-register to vote with the City or Town Clerk. Same-day voter registration and pre-registration will also be available at the caucuses. Sign-in for each caucus will start 15 minutes before the official starting time, and attendees must be inside or in line to sign-in no later than 15 minutes after the starting time. All caucus locations are handicapped-accessible.
Delegates will be divided equally between men and women, and all ballots will be written and secret. Youth, minorities, and people with disabilities who are not elected as delegates or alternates may apply to be add-on delegates, either at their caucus or online at www.massdems.org.
